Communion #16

God’s faithfulness is something that I reflect on often. In some ways, at the outset of my life, there was not a lot of chance that I would know God. And yet here I am, having been a believer for the last 30 years. All because of the faithfulness of God to me.

The greatest display of Gods faithfulness though is not only the fact that He went to the cross (although that is true too)...it’s in the fact that He provided a solution to a problem that humankind was ignoring. Sin was and is still a problem for us. It still entangles us. It still tempts us.

Even today, we tend to look around us and remark on how evil the world is all the while commenting from afar.

But in Jesus’ day, the Pharisees and Sadducees weren’t looking for a Messiah who would nullify sin. They were confident in the sacrificial system, and the laws that they had embellished and continued to contribute to. They thought He was going to come to eradicate the rulership of the Romans. But instead, God was sending the Messiah to give us a foolproof defence and even offence against sin.

This is God’s faithfulness to us. And to consider that the solution was one where His own life would be sacrificed, simply adds a whole new dimension to this faithfulness.
