Communion #19
Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen cloth and placed it in a tomb cut in the rock, one in which no one had yet been laid. It was Preparation Day, and the Sabbath was about to begin.
Luke 23:53-54
How interesting that the day of Jesus death was also the day of preparation for the Sabbath?
When we think of preparation, whether it be for a new role or a dinner party, we make a list of all the tasks that we need to complete to be ready. And often when it comes to the things of God, we might sense that there is a preparation phase upon us. Sadly, we are often shocked to discover that our preparation phase may include disappointment, forgiveness, waiting, loss of security, and many more scenarios we would ordinarily avoid. This is because there are some types of preparation that cannot be achieved through a task list.
Iām not sure if it was a coincidence that His death occurred on Preparation day. What I do know is that Jesus was adequately prepared for the death and resurrection that would enter us all into the final rest, beyond the Sabbath.
